As a marketing manager, you would:
- plan marketing campaigns
- explore customer opinions and gaps in the market
- control the budget for a marketing campaign
- organise market research, including focus group meetings
- measure the effectiveness of campaigns by collecting and analysing data
- report on the effectiveness of campaigns to management and advertising agencies
- look at competitors' marketing strategies
- maintain and update customer databases
- organise events or product exhibitions
- meet with potential sponsors and secure sponsorship
- agree on the placement of advertisements in hardcopy or online media, TV or radio
- manage campaign websites and social media like Twitter and Facebook.

Working Hours
In a full-time role, you would normally work standard business hours, Monday to Friday. Hours could be more irregular at busy times such as the run-up to a campaign launch. .
Conditions
You would normally work in an office. You may also travel to meet clients and attend networking events, conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions, and product launches.

How to become an Marketing Manager?
Entry Level Education
To become a marketing officer you usually have to complete at least a VET qualification in marketing.
Most marketing managers, however, would now have a degree in an area such as business, communications or commerce with a major in marketing. To get into these courses you usually need to gain your senior secondary school certificate or equivalent. English and maths would be appropriate subjects to study prior to university.
Graduates of marketing courses may qualify for membership of the Australian Marketing Institute or Australian Market and Social Research Society.
