Teacher's aides work under a teacher’s supervision to support children and deliver learning activities in the classroom. Teacher's aides may also be called education aides or teacher's assistants.

Work activities
As a teacher's aide, you would:
- help teachers prepare for lessons and plan learning activities
- set up classroom equipment and clear away after lessons
- sit with and provide extra assistance to students with special needs
- assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
- help manage classroom behaviour
- discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
- supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on school outings.

Working hours and conditions
Working Hours
In a full-time role, you would normally work standard school hours, Monday to Friday. You may only be required to work during school terms. Part time and flexible work should be available.
Conditions
Teacher's aides work in public and private schools, and in early childhood learning and childcare centres. Some teacher's aides also work in centres that cater specifically for children with special needs.

Entry Level Education
You can work as an education aide without formal qualifications, but employers are likely to require a VET qualification in education support or other relevant tertiary qualification.
You will need to obtain a Working with Children Check or equivalent. A National Police Certificate and a First Aid Certificate may also be required.
